Grandparenting is a do-over
Grandparenting is a do-over.
It’s a do-over for the times I said to our kids, “Hurry up!”
It’s a do-over for saying, “No, not today.”
It’s a chance to experience it all again: the wonder, the joy, the inquisitiveness, the excitement, the affection, the laughter, and, yes, even the mess and the tears.
It’s cherishing, in real time, the contagious confidence of a four-year-old, the sweet earnestness of a three-year-old, the recently learned kisses of a one-year-old, and the bright, squealing smiles of a new darling, born five months ago.
The wisdom that comes along with an aging body conveys there is nothing more important than making the most of the moments, of being present in the present, of shutting out the to-dos and seizing the hours with these precious and adored, God-given gifts of grandbabies … babies who will grow up and fly away with confidence, just as quickly and astonishingly as their beloved parents did.
Psalm 118: 24 This is the day the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it.
"Just turn on the power and everything is all set. You don’t need to change a thing. I have it on the correct setting and volume."
"If it’s not turned on," she said, "he won't sleep and will be distracted by the children playing outside."
I was babysitting for my niece and nephews and followed my sister's instructions to a T.
